"Old to the New" is an interdisciplinary exhibition in which makers with different forms of expression will transform the music foyer into an art mecca. This exhibition takes a unique look at the evolution of hip hop and its lasting influence on art, music, fashion and society. In this exhibition you will come into contact with dance, photography, fashion, paintings and music. And we invite the creators to a conversation to share their perspective on Hip Hop to inspire each other. Where are we now and how has the past 50 years inspired us with the work we are making now.
The Ascension Years
Tee Max is Hip Hop's photographic historian. With an archive of previously unseen works, Tee's lens has documented some of the genre's biggest starts including Biggie Smalls, J. Dilla, Beyonce and Busta Rhymes. Having kept the vast majority of his work out of the public gaze for almost 30 years, Tee has now chosen to begin sharing his iconic work with fellow lovers of the culture and art collectors. Hip hop aficionados and music historians viewing this collection of images, many being seen for the first time, will be transported back to an era of foreshadowed greatness.
Moments by Carolien Wesselink
Carolien Wesselink is an artist inspired by her immediate environment, documenting it through realistic drawings. People and events around her, with a significant impact from Hip Hop culture in the Netherlands, greatly influence her creativity. Carolien will also be creating a drawing during 'From Old to the New'.
Masked
Jade is a dancer and choreographer who places a high value on creativity, connection, and authenticity. She will be presenting a duet in collaboration with Taesung Kwon, who has come to the Netherlands from Korea to be part of this performance. Jade weaves together her inner puzzle of contemporary inspirations with her roots in Korea.
Getting Together: Video Series
Cherise Seedorf is an interdisciplinary artist, at home in various forms of art. For 'From Old to the New,' she has delved into the medium of film, seamlessly combining directing, styling, dance, photography, and production to create three distinct videos, each with its own theme. All three share a common purpose – to be intricately connected to the Hip Hop community. Cherise brings her artistic prowess to weave visual narratives that transcend the boundaries of conventional expression.

What I want to show with my pieces is a unique style taking into consideration what kind of
demand there is now that having your own character out there and making a statement is
vital.
With my designs I want people to be able to give power to their identity and radiate that.
Finding a personal style is very powerful to me but also finding your community in it.
I also think it is important to think about how to be sustainable in the fashion world. I do not
like overproduction which is directly entangled with capitalism, that is why every piece is
made to order. With that said i also work where possible with second hand fabrics or
rework existing pieces.

”You come alone and leave together”
The All Styles event will take place on Saturday the 25th of November in Musis, Arnhem.
Up-and-coming and established dance talent compete against each other in energetic dance battles – thus showcasing the power and essence of Hip Hop culture.
This year we transform the Kids 2vs2 All Styles Battle into a new concept battle, Soul2Soul! Whilst creating a platform for the kids, we want to invite adults to the party! Through cyphers and battles, we are bringing together the younger and older generation to share the dance floor. Starting of with a cypher preselection, the judges will pick the dancers who go through. These dancers will randomly be matched with one kid and one adult to form the 2vs2 duos. These duos will be battling it out to become the first winners of the Soul2Soul All Style Battle!

HipHopLive
21:30 - 01:00
Location:
Cafe Nelson, Coehoornstraat 33, 6811 LA Arnhem
Hiphoplive is an accessible jam session where young Hip Hop/R&B vocalists (both rappers and singers) can climb on stage to jam and freestyle together with musicians from ArtEZ.
This concept was created to connect two worlds (Hip Hop and conservatory) and to allow the youngest talent to get used to the stage and thus develop selfconfidence.
Based on the values that are so important in hip hop - equality, ownership and creativity - everyone is appreciated for entering the stage on such an evening, even if it is your first time.
More advanced artists are also present and participate: a spontaneous lineup in which a bigger name opens the stage, in which mutual inspiration and respect predominate.
Hosted by Authentic.
